Knee exercises can help you improve your flexibility. Many lifetime fitness programs are great at helping you reach your target heart rate and staying fit, but they aren't always designed to strengthen your joints. Knee strength and flexibility are concerns for many in both mens health and womens health circles. While you can go to the gym, buy all kinds of exercise equipment for your home or even try all the new fitness machines on the market, you really don't need to do any of that to do exercises that can help improve the strength and flexibility of your knees.

The first exercise to work your knee is simply referred to as the bent-leg raise. This exercise should strengthen your inner thigh muscle to balance the pull on the knee joint from the outer thigh, which is commonly stronger. First sit on a chair and straighten one leg. Simply hold your leg in that position for one minute. Next, bend your knee to lower that leg about halfway to the floor at a 45-degree angle and hold for 30 seconds. Return to the starting position and rest your leg for one minute. You can repeat this exercise up to four times for each leg.

The next exercise for your knee is called a straight leg raise. This is intended to strengthen the thigh muscles so that they help to support the knee joint. Begin by sitting in a chair with one leg extended and resting your foot on another chair. Lift that foot a few inches if that is comfortable and hold it for ten seconds while keeping your leg straight. Return your leg to the original resting position, rest for ten seconds and repeat this exercise for up to three minutes.

Exercises for your knee can help improve the health of your joints and in turn, improve your lifestyle. Diet, exercise and a regular fitness routine are wonderful additions to your new exercises for you knee.
