Fly fishing is a very old and well-defined fishing technique that dates back to Ancient Greece when it was customary to catch fish with a hook decorated with red yarn. The method was developed for trout fishing, but has since been used to catch other species of fish like grayling, pike, bass, carp and other types of fishes.

Fishing equipment for the sport consists only of four basic items - the rod, the reel, the line and the fly. The artificial fly is designed to look like some form of actual fly which is eaten by fishes. The fly is cast to float on the water to catch the attention of a feeding fish that will rise to take it.

As one of the fastest growing sports in the world, it has seen a surge in popularity amongst the Baby Boomer generation for its soothing nature. As a novice, it is wise to hire a fishing guide to lead you through the fundamentals of this fishing method, including how to select the right spot and determining the best depth of the water, its color and movement to catch fishes.
